ARE YOU AN OLDER WOMAN DATING A YOUNGER MAN? HOW IT CAN WORK FOR YOU AND FOR THEM...

If you are an older woman dating younger men then you are in a small but definitely growing area of the population. It is no longer the only accepted ‘social norm’ to see older men dating younger women and many more famous couple are getting together that fit into this new social category.

Celebrity examples of this phenomenon include 33 year old Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria who is married to 25 year old basketball player Tony Parker and Demi Moore is married to Ashton Kutcher who is 16 years her junior. At the other end of the age range Joan Collins, who is in her 70’s, married Percy Gibson who is 32 years her junior..

DATING TIP for older woman

Whilst many women may initially be hesitant to accept the advances of a much younger man there are many advantages to this type of relationship and you shouldn’t say no simple because of his age.

So what are the advantages of being an older woman dating younger men? For older women, younger men can often be more physically attractive. As men reach middle aged comfort they sometimes stop taking care of themselves, both physically and mentally whereas women are often conditioned to take good care of themselves. The elements that can make an older man attractive to a younger woman, such as social status and financial independence, are often of less priority to an older woman and therefore less of a consideration than an active mind and body.

"Numbers also play a part ... there are simply
more younger men available..."

Numbers also play a big part here too. There are simply more single younger men about. This is true for both sexes, the older we are, the more likely we are to be involved in a serious relationship already. Often it’s simply easier to meet younger men!

It’s said that men can sometimes become quite unadventurous as they get older whereas with women the reverse is often true. As a woman matures she often becomes more confident and accepting of herself and therefore more ready to try new things. This is often one of the things that attracts and older woman to a younger man and vice versa. A younger man may well be attracted by an older woman’s confidence and sense of adventure as well as the fact that she may look fantastic, be interesting and not seen as being ruled by her ‘body clock’ however true this may actually be! Older women tend to be much more independent, forgiving and have more realistic expectations from a relationship which can be very attractive to a younger man.

Friends and family on both sides may react in unexpected ways and have strong opinions about the relationship, sometimes quite negative ones. Don’t let others preconceptions put you off what could be a very rewarding relationship.

An older woman dating younger men can have a fantastic lifestyle, be made to feel younger, even more confident and have more fun than with a much older partner and it’s certainly a lifestyle that can be recommended if you think that they are the right one for you.

"at some points in your relationship you may find
yourself at different stages in your lives ... "

There are a few downsides to such a relationship though! You will probably find that, at some points in the relationship at least, you are at different stages in your life. As an older woman you may feel you have already been there and done that when your younger partner wants to try something. In this situation it’s important to revert back to that initial excitement and try and see a situation with new eyes rather than adopt a cynical air that could make it difficult for your younger partner to suggest things. Remember being more mature does sometimes require you to think that way and act appropriately!

A younger partner may want children, this may not be impossible, but may need careful consideration, especially if you already have existing children. It’s certainly something that should be discussed when the relationship reaches a suitably serious stage.

"You may have to consider if and how you integrate
your financial positions and careers..."

As an older woman you may be quite settled and established both financially and career wise but you may have to accept that your younger partner is not. They may still be climbing the career ladder or establishing their financial independence and you may have to consider if and how you integrate your financial positions and careers where and when relevant. On the flip side however younger men tend to be more supportive and accepting of their partners careers and will take it seriously, which cannot always be said for a older man.

You may also be thinking in the long term when you are old and infirm and your partner is still young. Remember though, having a younger partner will keep you younger, women tend to live longer than men and often age better so maybe this is the new way of the world to even things out and keep couples together in old age!

At the end of the day any relationship must be considered on its relative merits and if you meet someone, have a good time together and choose to spend time together then age, or other peoples opinions shouldn’t matter. Your, and his happiness are the most important things to consider so make your decisions based on that as everything else, including the opinions in this article, is based on generalisation and each situation should be carefully considered!
