EXAMPLE DATING HEADLINES
"Life is a zoo in a jungle so do you want to get into my cage?" This is taking quite a profound statement and then making it light but it also has a certain spiritual quality to it. Some may see it as slightly provocative but others will see the fun in it and if they recognise the quote from Peter De Vries at its core then they'll also appreciate your intellect. "Bear needs keeper" has a strong intellectual pull as it is clever and is both challenging and appealing at the same time. The use of 'bear' will associate qualities of strength and cuddliness with you. It also shows someone who has a strong character but is open to being in a relationship where they sometimes give control to someone else. "Everything we do in life today reflects in the universe tomorrow" "Everything we do in life today reflects in the universe tomorrow" is a very strong headline as it has a strong spiritual pull but also demonstrates someone who feels responsible for their actions, a combination which is strongly attractive to most women. It also demonstrates that the writer is not afraid to appear sensitive, another big tick in the box! "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; If there is any reaction both are transformed" This is a quote from Jung which is very powerful and shows that someone is open to change but don’t be surprised if it gets used by others. You could try a play on words to transform this quote and make it your own e.g. "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; how would you react to me?" which now has both intellectual and spiritual qualities to it. "Have a seat! Comfortable? Good, let me introduce myself to you then… This is a good headline because it talks directly to the reader, it's very polite but actually very personal at the same time and it's quite witty. Using the word 'you' and asking a question are both great techniques for drawing people in. "Pick me, pick me" or similar is cute but can sound a little desperate. Add something to it to give it more punch maybe "pick me and let me make you laugh" or I personally like "Pick me please – my mum always told me to be polite to strangers and right now you're a stranger" but some people might find it a little off-putting and think you are a mummy's boy/girl. "Straight faced toffee nosed miserable cows can search elsewhere…I need cheering up not winding up!" or "Timewasters can move on" indicates that these guys have some issues and are probably not great dating material right now. "I'm suarve and sophisticated" "Looking for love", "looking for my dream date", "Searching for my soul mate" are overused and don't tell your reader anything about you. You need to draw your reader in before you tell them what you want. The only positive of this type of headline is that it indicates your level of commitment; the downside is she might not believe you! "Looking for love, friendship, anything" as above but even worse – are you not choosy? Obviously not! "I might be the one you are looking for" is so overused and the answer I always think when I read this is "but you're probably not" and research shows I'm not alone in that thinking. This is simply not appealing enough and is lazy! Instead tell them why you might be the one they are looking for! "I don't know what to write..." "Hi", "Hello gorgeous", "very nice to meet you" don't work well as headlines. Your profile is not a letter it's an advert and your headline is just that, something to draw your reader in. if you don’t believe me go and look at any dating website and see how many people use this and tell me how the reader is supposed to choose someone based on it! "Let's get cosy together", "Let's have some fun in the sun" "Wanna fool around?" have a place on adult dating sites but don’t use them on a mainstream one as they indicate someone who is only looking for one thing. "I'm suarve and sophisticated" If you can't spell it don’t write it, especially if you're trying to show off! "Errm right where do I start?" or "I don’t know what to write" or even worse " Might right something another day". Saying hello would be better than any of these! If you can't be bothered creating a profile then don't expect anyone to be bothered to contact you, it's not cute and it's not funny. "Bored of being lonely"; so you want me to stop you being bored? This just shouts someone who needs to get a life and an online dating site is not the place for that. Women are not attracted to bored people as they tend to be boring. Be more dynamic! Hopefully this article has given you something to think about and that really is the most important thing about writing a dating headline – think about it first! Don't try to be too clever, use something that relates to your profile and check for spelling mistakes are you could end up just looking stupid! P.S.
