DATERS DIARIES SINGLE MUMS DATING DIARY JANUARY
1st January Resolutions not yet actioned - 1. Alka Selzers taken - 4. OK OK today is not the day. Hangover needs to be sorted first. 4th January Kids at school - 2. Resolutions in progress - 1. Hangovers - 0 Finally, a bit of time and space to start thinking about how to change my single status. I'm told online dating is the way to go so...here goes. 5th January Online dating sites to choose from - HUNDREDS! Wow, I never know there could be so many online dating sites to choose from - and I never guessed the variety of 'tastes' that would be catered for. How naive am I! I still don't know where to start, despite eliminating some of the more 'specialist' options. I think it will have to be...this one! Dating site selected, now for the fun bit! 11th January Dating site chosen - 1. Photos chosen - 2. Profiles written...aaahhhh! I thought this was going to be easy! Just say 'calling all nice blokes - single girl looking' and that would be that but, oh no, couldn't be that simple could it! I finally managed to choose 2 moderately decent photos of myself to post. I hate them of course, but hey, I guess that is what I really look like these days! Does the camera add 10lb? Or was that Christmas... Now, I find myself faced with the mammoth task of describing myself as well as what I'm looking for. On top of that, I've got to think of a user name and headline that doesn't shriek 'boring woman seeks man with similar lack of interests' or 'nymphomaniac seeks same'! This is going to take some thinking about. 16th January Profiles written - 1 - well almost. Friends and family enlisted to help - 4 I had no intention of telling anybody I was doing this. I assumed they'd all think I was some kind of saddo, looking for some kind of weirdo. But, they never cease to surprise me. Everyone I spoke to not only thought I was doing the right thing, but also that I'm OK so therefore I can assume at least some of the other online daters are too! On top of that, they have helped me write some kind of description of myself and what I'm looking for, without making me sound too boring or desperate so...progress at last. 17th January Profiles posted - 1. Responses so far - 0 OK so I only signed up 10 minutes ago but how long does a girl have to wait? I've decided to not to answer anybody else's profile to start with, but to see who is interested in mine first. I don't want to choose from everything on the site, because I'm always the one who would pick the dog with 3 legs, fleas and a tendency to bite, at the dog rescue centre because I feel sorry for it...you know what I mean! 20th January Responses - 4. Potential dates...mmmm I've finally summoned up the courage to check if anyone has made contact. There are 4 messages waiting for me! Well at least some people don't find my profile and photos off-putting, there's hope for me yet! How do I put this. Nothing against any of the guys who made contact, but I think I need to refine my criteria for a date somewhat. You know, maybe put some sensible limits on location and age... 23rd January Responses - 2 Kids back at school, time for another check. This time they both seem to be within the realms of normal but I'm just not taken with them. I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes. Disappointing though. 24th January Responses - 3. Potential dates...maybe 1?? This is more like it! 3 messages, all from guys who appear human. Not a pair of swimming trunks or exes in sight in the photos and maybe one who I just might be interested in contacting...Slow down, don't plan the wedding just yet, even the first date isn't quite on the cards yet but I think I need to think of a suitable clever witty reply. Oh alright then, I'll just be myself and see what happens. 25th January Responses - 3. Conversations ongoing - a very definite 1! Things are definitely looking up. I've had 3 more responses but I haven't even had a chance to look through them yet as I have been messaging 'Sam72' whenever possible! He looks like a genuine kind of guy - not scarily good looking but definitely easy on the eye - he appears to share some of my interests, without being a clone and even lives fairly near by! Well, this side of the Atlantic anyway. I'm not at the point of giving out numbers or personal email addresses or anything, but it's fun to start to get to know someone new and build a rapport. I'm looking forward to see how it goes!
